Postby First Paul on Tue Jul 15, 2003 11:50 am

Its poll day today.. and what i'm interested to know is what era of the Beatles people prefer. Early 2 minute pop classics or the latter compositions from like Sgt Pepper onwards...

Soz Pablo, I can't vote in this one cos I like all the Beatles catalogue.. :D

All classics and I'm up for musical expression and experimentation.. they really changed the face of music in my opinion.. :D

See that's a toughy.

My fave LP is Rubber Soul which is late, right, but I was brought up with Help and Hard Day's Night, which is early to mid.

When does the early period finish, like? Because after Backbeat I got well into the old stuff too.

I like it all. Not trying to wind anybody up, but would you not say there was like 3 phases, early, middle and late?

Does mid = Help and Revolver? If so, I'll have that instead, please.

It depends on what mood you're in to play which part of their catalogue.

My dad liked the early stuff, my mum liked their late stuff and when I got into them properly I liked their psych period which you could say was the mid stuff..

I'll have a P please Bob.. :D

I find that "With the Beatles" and "Beatles for Sale" are both particularly fine albums as it shows them beginning to find their own sound. Still Rock n Roll, a few covers and a bit of great pop songwriting (Babys in Black, No Reply etc) These two albums are generally overlooked in most polls. These albums contain a rawness that you dont find until Let it be (well, before Spector added the strings)

Love the early stuff, but i think REVOLVER, SGT. PEPPER'S, MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR, YELLOW SUBMARINE are the most amazing... and my faves. Is that considered late or mid?
