The ubiquitous Pitchfork with their two-cents:

http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/22287-here/

Although it may be corrected by the time you read it, funny that they credit Ray with "Nothing More To Say" as of 10:43pm PST. Why do critics have such a hard time making out who's who? They're pretty distinctly different songwriters and voices. Very positive review. Great to read things like, "Here, the band’s subtlest, warmest release to date and also one of their strongest."

According to the hoi polloi/cognoscenti, these guys might just have a shot at a career!

Not like the album doesn't tell you who wrote them either.

There are a bunch of links to stuff on the Facebook group, BTW. Nice thread idea. If only the Events section of this site had the tour dates - they're pushed pretty far down the home page now.

Georgia,

Can you provide a link for the TFC Fanclub on Facebook? I'm not on Facebook and cannot find it.

Thanks!

Pitchfork at one time was ok. Now it's like a TMZ of mostly garbage.

It's really fallen off over the last, oh, 15 years.

Definitely the last 6-8 years it's dropped off. But since conde nast bought it a year ago, it seems to have gone off the cliff, and more about gossip and KISS FM crap.

The only function it has now is letting me know of reissues that are coming out. Other than that, I avoid.

Yes sir. Here it is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/fannysfanssupport/

A lot of chatter has moved over there. Some familiar faces and some new ones participating.

I found some of these interesting, most notably the Guardian piece and the one where Norman ranks the previous Fanclub output.

Really, Norman, Thirteen after The King? You guys really don't like that record, do you? It's a shame, it's so much better than that. Perhaps you read too many bad press clippings. In fact, you should include at least one cut from that record in your tour shows. The first three -- Hang On, The Cabbage and Radio -- all all ace. Big on Norman 3, Escher, Fear Of Flying and Gene Clark as well.

Interesting about Shadows as well ... surprising confession. But you got No. 1 right, actually. I prefer Grand Prix to Bandwagonesque by a slim margin, but the top 3, no qualms in any order. Glad to see you think so kindly of Howdy! It established the band's transition to its second phase, and grows with each listen.

Tough to say where Here is going to fit into your ranking. But I'm predicting No. 4.

That is a very nice review. Seems like it was written by someone who understands the band a bit more than some of the others. Thanks for linking.

absolutely! allmusic is mostly my go-to ressource for music criticism as they almost always write emphatically about records and look for what has been achieved within the parameters the musicians have set for themselves, rather than mirroring the taste of the reviewer.
