i had a dream last night i finally got a copy of "here". it started with "i'm in love" and "thin air" of course, the songs i already know, but what followed was kinda surprising. the third song was just 50 seconds or so and faded out, and then there was a gerry song sung in japanese, finnish and sami language. and then there was a funky raymond song which was sung by edwyn collins or then it was his impression of E.C. that was side A, can't remember the other side. it was a clear vinyl. tomorrow will tell if this really is the case!

fifth listen of "here" as we speak. brilliant album!
it has a great cosmic feel to it. short and sweet songs, surprising turns, great lyrics, great sounds, inspired guitar solos (special mentions go to both solos on "the first sight" and the solo on "live in the moment").
seems like a real grower, and i don't know it well enough yet, but i love it already.
favourites so far are: "the first sight", "the darkest part of the night", and those two last songs of the album just stop me in my tracks. they're really beautiful and kind of dark. just kind of songs that make you stop whatever you're doing and listen to them.

it has been stated in some reviews that this album is "not a surprise" to fans of the band. but i think is a bit different from the past albums. maybe a little less straight forward pop, somehow more psychedelic, even meditative (especially ray's songs). maybe the right word in more introverted - in the best possible way. very fresh sounding nevertheless!

Right on the money there! It's does sound like many of the songs stay and linger in the present moment and the simple joys that are right there. These new songs sort of stop time and (as was pointed in one of the reviews) don't worry about the past or the future. Everything is HERE :-) And the music is backing up the lyrics in a lovely peaceful way.

Yes, it's a somewhat new style of songs, but it does grow with you...even I who always enjoys those rockers and powerpoppier songs of TFC have found the sweet 'steady state' (LOL) of the new bunch personally inviting. The songs have nested and I don't think they are bound to leave soon :D

Good times.

My vinyl copy arrives today...can't wait to play it. I've just now listened to the clips of all the songs and it sounds like it is going to be absolutely wonderful. I love the slower stuff (which seems to be the entire album, fine with me).

Really awful to have to have waited so long but so looking forward to sitting down and savoring this. 8)

Hi,

Has anyone done a breakdown regarding which Fannie sings/wrote each song on 'Here?' I've poked around the board and not found anyone listing them out. (My ear hasn't been able to figure it out yet - damn ear!)

If someone could list the songs with the singer/writer I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks,

hi!
some time has passed after the release of "here".
after months of digesting it, i think the time is ripe for me to voice my opinion: i think it's one of the best albums they've put out!
what i like about it is how diverse the song material is, also the sound and arrangements are colorful and top notch.
it's a compact record with it's twists and turns in clever spots. i've been mostly listening from vinyl and the song order works really well. an extra mention goes out to the song "steady state".

just sayin'!

It is terrific.

Playing the vinyl usually requires more attention to the music from the listener. I really love Gerry's songs, The First Sight and It's a Sign. Great tunes.
