Carla from TeenCanteen is organising this special celebration of Girl Groups. I'll be singing at it, so is TeenCanteen, Eugene Kelly, No More Tiger and many more.

Egyptian Shumba.
Leading up to The Girl Effect gig next week I decided to post some of my favourite Girl Group classics. Let's start with something wild. Imagine classic girl group pop but Phil Spector's brain has been swapped for Sun Ra's and the Wrecking Crew have been replaced by The Monks and it's getting close to how this record sounds.
Lou Christie, who wrote this with his gypsy mystic song writing partner Twyla, is one of pop's most underrated figures. It also contains some of my favourite pop lyrics ever. PLAY LOUD.

Let Me Get Close To You.
Continuing my favourite "girl group" theme with this one. It's by a solo artist but fits the genre. Alex Chilton introduced me to this track.

My sister will be on the Janice Forsyth Show on BBC Radio Scotland tomorrow afternoon talking about this show for Scottish Women's Aid.

I believe that Eugene will also be on.

DOORS at 7pm and first act at 7.15pm.

Here's one of the songs that I considered covering. It should have been a mega-hit.

Norman and I did versions of The Chiffons' Nobody Knows What's Goin' On In My Mind and The McKinleys' That Lonely Feeling (with input from Stu Kidd).
