Teenage Fanclub in Köln - Thursday, November 27th, 2014

Postby vetiver on Thu Oct 30, 2014 10:37 pm

Got my train and concert tickets, can't wait to see the band again - and of course the other boarders who can make it. So what's our plan? Just like Moe, Terje is our leader.

I'm a follower, Paul. We don't need a leader, let's do this together :D

You really should write for the tourism board:

"Cologne is filled with a seedy underbelly that only exposes itself if given the proper combination of illicit drugs and kink, which are our two main exports, coincidentally."

"Most American tourists find our murders quaint and 'European' "

"Cologne: A Musky City"

That's the spirit!

I'm assuming used record stores would have some ridiculously excellent 70s LPs as well. I want to make the trip to Germany one of these days explicitly for shopping. I can taste all those Brain, Ohr, UA records.

There's ridiculously awesome 70s US records in used record stores here, so where did all the German records from Germany go to?

Terje and I have been busy painting the town red last night and today, but it's Germany so they've painted most of it back to normal already. If anyone happens to read this in the next couple of hours, we're meeting at 6 in front of Braueri Pfaffen in the Altstatmarkt, under the gnomes spinning around. We'll start spinning around shortly afterwards, then go for some food before the gig.

Too tired for a full review, but here's some impressions from Week-End Festival. Happy to run into some of the above posters at tonight's gig! Sorry I didn't say goobye, I had things to do, places to be ;-)

So how was it? It was a good one! Any show starting with "Star sign" and ending with a five song encore can't be all that bad, eh? A live debut in there, too. Nice little rock'n'roll number sung by Norman, at first glance it sounded more "Bandwagonesque" than "Shadow"-y to my ears. Pretty cool to hear that "Baby Lee" got one of the biggest cheers of the night, too.

They forgot to put "Control" in the set, and when somebody in the audience shouted it out near the end, Norman noticed it and ran over to Gerry who was visible surprised. They added the song to the encore, before even returning after "Everything Flows" to close with a quick run through "What You Do To Me".

Nicholas Krogovich, Amen Dunes and The Clientele also on the bill and while they all had their moments, they were no more than support acts (underlined by the fact that the TFC backline was on stage the entire time. Killed the festival character a bit, to be honest.)

Nice to see George B. as part of the TFC crew, too.

Seeing TFC and the Vaselines in the space of five days? Life is good!

Setlist:

Star Sign
About You
Start Again
Sometimes
The Past
It's All In The Mind
Don't Look Back
Baby Lee
I Need Direction
Did I Say
Verisimilitude
I'm In Love
Ain't That Enough
Can't Feel My Soul
Concept
Sparky

Near You
I Don't Want Control Of You
Your Love Is The Place

Same impression here: the new one sounded rather bandwagonesqueesque. I liked it instantly.
Great gig, first time for me that they came back once more after they played Everything Flows.

The night's line up didn't work out too well. The venue was not even half full, Amen Dunes helped to raise business at the bar, Clientele were nice enough but their stuff sounds very samey if played live.
