French Football

Postby euphrate on Wed Jul 28, 2010 8:41 pm

Well, i'm not into football that much, but last time i went on tour in Scotland, i surprisingly discovered that lots of scots people were pretty fan of our (boring) "ligue de football"...
Does someone has any explication about this x-file ???

I've been following Auxerre for about 12 years. But then I have a team in most European leagues. I'm a football tart.

Since buying a replica top in Milan some 15/20 odd years ago I've always had a soft spot for St Etienne. Liking the band of the same name and that little bit of radio audio at the start of one of the albums possibly influenced the decision too.

In fact Pinball - me and Kenny Mathieson both got the same tops - lime green with white v-necks and Casino (supermarket) sponsor. I reckon Kenny took mine thinking it was his, so gonnae ask if I can get it back :D

I'l say to him the next time I'm speaking to him. I think he used to wear it on stage. He's currently confounding the critics by wearing a Gers top in bars in North Belfast. And last time I played with him - used to play twice a week with him - he was wearing an absolutely criminally manky Kaiserslautern top.

He's DJing with a few mates of mine still but I haven't seen much of him since my wee fella came along - used to see him every Friday in the Garrick.

Were you in Life With Nixon? I have your entire recorded output including demos!??? :D

Yep, legendary 70's team, that won a lots of french championship and were long-time celebrated for being "the-team-that-reached-the-european-final"...

You should also try to find the Manufrance top (ManuFrance was local weapon factory)

Many Liverpool fans would say that the St Etienne game back in 1977 was the best night at Anfield ever - one of the first games I ever watched.

I have a soft spot on Saint Etienne as well since Foxbase Alpha. Before that I was supporting Girondins Bordeaux because I went on holidays with my parents to the South West of France for a couple of times.

This is the top I have at home (except for short sleeves): Image
The one thing that would make the world alright today would be if Teenage Fanclub showed up to play a gig in my house.

 I wasn't in Life With Nixon but did attend most of the early Edinburgh gigs and of course have a cassette of that EP somewhere (Biker?). Kenny was probably the biggest influence on me liking the music I do - and he in turn got it from his bro. But we did find dance music ourselves!! And I never really got the Kylie thing :D
