Square Eyes ...

Vinyl - a ridiculous but somehow strangely enjoyable Scorsese Coke opera. The E A B chord progression explanation in this week's ep was the best thing of the entire show so far.

Happyish - Steve Coogan's US sitcom - is actually pretty good.

Was watching The Detectorists the other day on Netflix having not been too interested in it enough the first time round to watch it..

Still loving the intrigue and court goings on in the series Versailles.. last episode next week.. following that every week a historical programme addendum tacked on to the end called Inside Versailles with Cheshire cat history professor Kate Williams, who just unnerves me the more she grins fully and bounces around getting very excited about history frothing at the mouth and twipping over her words (she scares me)..

Anybody mentioned the Olympics yet?

There are always going to be cheats - those fuckers run the world - but I love to see people excel at things they've invested so much in for such a long time.
I fear the worst.

The Get Down - Netflix. Brilliant.
First episode a bit too long at 1hr30ish IMO but the following five episodes hit the 50 - 60 min mark. Follows the reminisces of a fictitious famous 90s rapper (voiced by Nas) on how he and his crew (him and four friends plus their 3 girl singers) got through adversity together to create music and enter the music business within the 70s black and Puerto Rican community of the South Bronx just as Hip Hop was being founded by Grandmaster Flash and Kool Herc was arriving on the scene. Written by Baz Luhrmann its a little bit between Westside Story/Romeo and Juliet in parts but ok as you get in to it..

Ooh, sounds like my cup of tea, and hopefully more cheery than The Bridge, I've caned all 3 series over the last couple of weeks and now feel like something lighter. So I've just started watching The Killing, of course.

Narcos is on my list of things to watch in my temporary retirement which started yesterday.

What did you think of Wolf Hall?\

I really need to catch up with the Glen Campbell film and the Detectorists?

Bit of controversy about the new Westworld series. People thinking it shouldn't be made and they should leave it as it is, and of course people who haven't seen it yet saying it's crap.

I'm lovin the trailers, looks well creepy, really looking forward to it.

I liked Wolf Hall, felt it was a complementary series to the film A Man For All Seasons despite the decades between the two.. almost like a chance to see it from Cromwell's side of things rather than AMFAS which is sympathetic to More. From what I've seen so far of Rylance I'm starting to come around to liking his style of acting prefering him in historical things as opposed to more modern day characterisations like the character he played in The Gunman.

The Detectorists was charming and very funny at times. I like Toby Jones ever since I saw him in Infamous - a film about Truman Capote, and Berberian Sound Studio. He's also the voice of Dobby the house elf. Also stars the geezer from The Office - Mackenzie Crook..

Plenty for you to watch and catch up on! Enjoy your time off..
