Went to the National Portrait Gallery today.. saw all the Romantic Georgian era portraits.. the Shelleys, Keats, Emma Hamilton, Nelson, and Byron.. and it made me think about how an aristocratic English poet with a bad reputation for the ladies helped a nation to their independence from Turkey and died doing it.. plus thanks to his doctor John Polidori, Byron was the influence for the first aristocratic romantic vampire called Lord Ruthven way before Dracula was even thought of..

This is the portrait of Byron I saw..

Then at the National Gallery I popped in to the Rembrandt room to check on my fav painting.. It first stuck in my mind when I saw it as a six/ seven year old on a school trip to the gallery and its been there ever since..

I like that. Like the blue outlines.

She's similar to the Impressionists with the colours she uses and she was great in that she broke some of the basic rules of painting: no outlines and use all of the canvas.. its great work. I particularly like that one.

Saw this yesterday at the Chicago Cultural Center:

Image

"Mr. Coke" by Howard Finster (1916-2001). It's a great exhibition that I'll have to go back to since his stuff is so intricate and full of tiny text.
