After all the stressful 11th hour extensions to my 'temporary' job, and the dangled carrots suggesting a permanent position, after over 2 years, I finish in 2 weeks. They can't extend my contract anymore.

Apparently the union told management that they had to make me permanent as a 2 year long secondment showed there was a genuine need for a permanent position. So management have told me I have to go.

It doesn't need to make sense.

Feels different than last time though. Colleagues who care and a supportive manager who's spent a lot of his own time stopping me from panicking and helping me out have really made a big difference.

I hate applying for jobs. I've been terrible to live with the past two weeks as I've spent almost every waking hour, and many hours I should be sleeping, rehashing my cv and looking for jobs. Bf is betterer at that than what I am and has been very helpful, bless 'im.

Today I finally got my application sorted and applied for a job. I hope for my bf's sake I get it.

Just wait, soon the robots will have all the jobs. In America we are transferring all our jobs to China and India with TPA/TPP (soon to be approved by Obama bipartisanly-which just shows you there is a problem). There are no political parties in America standing up for jobs in this country. Instead they are pushing for monopolies to control sectors of the economy. Amazon controls physical books/music. Apple controls digita books/music. Monsanto controls all of the plant seeds. Et al. I'm surprised that there is still more than one publc university in existence in this country (as students can skype or facetime into the classroom and do all class work in their home, which they soon will not be able to afford because there will be no jobs to get money to pay for the home or computer or online access needed to be a student).

Hope all works out for you two.

I know I won't be the first person to have gone through this but thanks in a large part to the Tories I know I won't be the last. What a horrible place this world has become as of late. How selfish people can be. I'm alright Jack.. Or am I? Until a better party with better policies (preferably Socialist ones) gets elected in to Westminster the little people are fucked.

I agree with some of what you say (not really being too familiar with US politics). Big factor for us is the 24% cut in adult funding, the closure of many creative arts courses, a change in the structure of many course qualifications and the introduction of student loans for students who didn't attain school grades for level 2 & 3 qualifications. Education now is only for adult learners who can afford it. Children have to remain compulsorily in education until they're 18 so where once colleges of further education once catered to adult learners it now sees them competing against schools for 14 - 18 learners. With education cuts and the attempted breaking of the teacher unions by this government the introduction of online courses and taking teachers off permanent contracts and placing them on to Hourly Paid ones means state education is in a very bad way at the moment. Never mind Free Schools (where anyone can set up a school & anyone with a degree can teach) which I am sure is a way to break teaching.unions.

And you with yours of course, dear Ruthie. :)
Thanks Rab. Thinking of it as an opportunity to try something else rather than as a negative. Holding on! :)

In a very fast turnaround, I finished my last job end of May, not before I applied for a few jobs, had an interview on Thursday, offered the job Friday, started yesterday and today........hope to sign the contract for the job I've already started! Eeek!

A bit less money, and still temporary but at 18 months is still great. Of course neither of those things has been confirmed yet as I haven't signed my letter! But I think that is pretty typical round here.

I can see where my old team sit through the window, so I'm not too far from them either. They are still looking forward to scarves and cakes on a semi-regular basis!

good luck D! and Ruthie, I hope you're settled in at the new job!

Today, I learned that a friend of mine illustrated ads for Symonds cider. If anyone spots an ad, mind snapping a pic? :D
