Thanks! She's applying for uni this year to read an English degree. Its nice not conforming to the usual stereotypes of single mothers living on council estates. She'll be my second child going to uni. We've had our moments like any family I suppose but we pull through together and when they reach adulthood that is special.. So yeah. :-)

AND CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!! 8) Special day and all that!! :-)

English degree! Prepare for her to be more well-read than you soon (not easy to do from what I know about you.)

Thanks for the wishes. Unfortunately, Wifey, Baby, and I all caught a cold and are in bed.

Today I FEEL LIKE SHIT!

Hope you guys get better soon esp baby (with an immature immune system probably sucks worst for the bubs) :-( maybe you guys can celebrate it better when you're all well :-)

In the days of internetness and search engines a librarians job is fast evermore becoming redundant so we are finding with both students and the powers that be in education / government. We're trying to sustain the sector despite being asked to provide statistics to support the idea that libraries (& library staff) have a positive effect on students learning which unless you get all scientific is extremely hard to provide.. Indian rope trick right now.. So as for my reading it only looks a lot because not many folk do it these days, they're all reading synopses from films and blurbs on book jackets for exams and getting away with it. Reading and the intake of knowledge has changed in the younger generations also the skill of research has become helpless.. Pftt! Lol I've gone off on one without meaning to.. :-)

Today I wanted to share a book, and recently discovered blog, that's provided an enormous amount of laughter and enjoyment for me lately.

I also went back to work today after having the Christmas holidays off which was nice and kind of restful..

Today I saw a photo of Sir Macca and thought to myself "Pablo baby.. Stop dying your hair. You don't need that crap. Embrace the grey / white hair sweetie. We all know your age.. " and then I thought back to those photos of his aged dad and wondered if he would look like him if he stopped dying it. It gets us all in the end and I'm having my own existential grey / white hair crisis..

... not quite today - but had a lovely weekend up at Glencoe / Ballachullish.

The weather was beautiful on Saturday and the drive up through Bridge of Orchy / Rannoch Moor and Glencoe is always one of my favourites - but the scenery was just absolutely outstanding.

My pictures wouldn't do it justice but there's some lovely views on this website

... it's no easy.

Cuts announced by Govt of 24% funding in adult education. This means loss of jobs in colleges and universities as well as big losses in educational provision for vulnerable and needy adults. Adults who may be unemployed, suffer long term illnesses, or who just want to make their life chances that little bit better by studying for a new career. Please sign this petition or forward it to lecturers, fellow students, friends- all who might be affected by the loss of a substantial sector of adult education not only in the arts & humanities (amongst others) but also in other subject areas such as ESOL which ensures people who emigrate here and speak another language other than English gain the necessary skills to find employment.

All the major unions who have members working in education support this. Please sign and forward to colleagues or friends.

Thank you.

Inevitable has happened. Education isn't a great sector to be working in at the moment. It seems there are redundancies due to be announced either this Friday or the following Monday. I know I won't be the first person to have gone through this but thanks in a large part to the Tories I know I won't be the last. What a horrible place this world has become as of late. How selfish people can be. I'm alright Jack.. Or am I? Until a better party with better policies (preferably Socialist ones) gets elected in to Westminster the little people are fucked.
