Vote for Bandwagonesque songs

Postby bithead on Tue Sep 07, 2004 10:41 am

part of that David Scott's show. what is your most fave song of Bandwagonesque? it's bit hard to choose one, I love Star Sign, Alcoholiday, December but my vote is The Concept. classic and it still sounds fresh.

Poll option doesn't allow me to put many answers, so I cut up last 2 tune, if you wanna choose this one, please post so.

11.Guiding Star
12.Is This Music?

Starsign. The Fannies' national anthem.
The best way to waste time is to fill it. If you can read this, congratulations on your Légion d'Honneur.Image

Alcoholiday - one of my all-time favourite songs of all-time. :P

when they're laid out in front of you like that. what to choose. they're all great. I've got it on vinyl and aint heard it for five years cos my deck dont work.. but I'm dying to listen to it again. in the end I'm go for alcoholiday. a tour de force. concept and december run a close second. but then you have these absolute wee crackers on there like petrock metal baby and what you do to me. there's not a bad song on it. well apart from is this music..I always hated it when it came on.

I can't pick out a favorite either. All great albums are more than the sum of their parts. Every song here can stand on its own, but I almost always listen to it as a whole, from start to finish. It's become one of those "old reliable friends" in my record collection and I almost think of it as a personality in its own right, independent of the people who made it. When you're feeling a bit pathetic and sorry for yourself, it empathizes and commiserates with you (December, Alcoholiday), tells you things'll pick up again soon (Star Sign), cracks a couple of jokes to make you laugh (Metal Baby), pats you on the back and convinces you not to worry, the sky isn't really falling (Guiding Star) and sends you off with a rousing cheer (Is This Music?). All done with perfect pop melodies and the big guitars and harmonies I love. 10/10.

It's really tough for me to pick out a favorite, and they do change depending on mood, whatever.

"I Don't Know" -- Man I love the instrumentals and harmonies on that one.

It sort of lives in the shadows of the Big 3 (StarSign, Concept, Alcoholiday), sadly.

Great tune for cruising down the highway, banging your head and singing along.

This is entirely a tough exercise! Bandwagonesque is one of those records with so many great songs (shoot, the weakest tracks are great songs), so much personality, so rich ... still, I had to go with "The Concept" for it's perfect melody, tremendous hook, and the fact that when it is played you KNOW it's Teenage Fanclub, you KNOW it's "The Concept" (that opening feedback noise, into the guitar strum, into "She wears denim..." - shoot, that's one brilliant moment in rock n roll history!).

The Concept

I'm a latecomer to the Fannies and have only had Bandwagonesque for about 2 years. When I first put the album on I was blown away. I couldn't believe I hadn't heard these songs before. I tend to like shorter songs but The Concept is one of those rare exceptions where the extended track length actually adds to the enjoyability of the song.
