Jonathan

Postby duglas on Thu Jan 23, 2003 5:07 pm

Yeah I got to meet Jonathan and he was reasonably friendly and he was really complimentary about our version of That Summer Feeling (apparently v. unusual for him). I know a lot of people who have found him very "difficult". I remember Mark Radcliffe, a massive Jonathan fan, saying he asked him in an interview why the musicians he worked with were always changing and Jonathan said " Well I'm a really difficult guy to work with". Mark laughed and Jonathan said in a very serious direct tone "You shouldn't laugh I'm a very difficult guy and by the end of this interview you'll know it's true" and Mark said he was right. BUT it really doesn't bother me. You get people in who are difficult like Jonathan or Alex Chilton or Kim Fowley in their very different ways but the records are still so great and nothing can diminish that for me.
You couldn't meet a nicer guy than Darius but I'm not gonna start buying his records...but I agree it's nice to be nice. :)

Talking of Darius I bought tickets for his concert in Edinburgh and it helped make my 12 year old's (Jill) Christmas extra special. Sadly there is no ticket for me but never mind I am sure I will get over it !
Anyway my song of the day today is :-

'The Ballad of El Goodo' by Big Star

For some reason that song reminds me of Neil Young's "Words (Between The Lines Of Age)" but I don't know why. I love Skyscraper National Park.
In a hundred years you and I will both be dead.

Catch the wind - Donovan.

Hadn't heard it for ages until this morning, looked it out of the collection and as I'm a bit obsessive I played it over and over. Love that song, must be the old hippy in me.

:?: When did TFC do Green Grow the Rushes O? Was it on a session?
Any way my song for today would be Let's Go All The Way by The Raspberries.

Yes it was a Dutch Radio acoustic session (with Norman + Raymond) from 1993, according to Doug's Ultimate Collection.

My 'song of the Day' today is :-

'Every Second Hurts' by Superstar

Definitely one of my favourites and if I remember correctly one of Alan Warner's too. Talking of Alan Warner I started reading 'The Man Who Walks' yesterday and really enjoying it so far. Not heard anymore about the filming of 'The Sopranos' but I for one am looking forward to it and with a bit of luck there should be some Superstar tracks in the soundtrack ? :?:
